What is Nia?
Nia is a dynamic fitness form set to music. Nia uses The Body's Way to achieve physical, mental,
emotional, and spiritual fitness and well-being. Nia encourages the
Joy of Movement and draws
inspiration from the stillness and concentration of Tai Chi, the dynamic poses of Yoga, the explosive
power of the Martial Arts, and the grace and spontaneity of modern and ethnic dance.

Why is it called Nia?
When it was first being developed more than 20 years ago by founders Debbie Rosas and Carlos
Rosas, "Nia" was an acronym for "non-impact aerobics." Today, Nia most commonly stands for
neuromuscular integrative action - the mind and body working together. The word "nia" in Swahili
means "with purpose," so Nia also means "
moving with purpose."

What are the benefits of Nia?
Nia focuses on enhancing flexibility, agility, mobility, strength, and stability. People who have taken
Nia find they can increase their fitness level and self-heal during an enjoyable, invigorating workout.

Who can take Nia?
People of all ages and fitness levels can take Nia! No previous experience is necessary! By using
The Body's Way, people move in ways that feel good to their body. There are an estimated 30,000
people around the world are practicing Nia today!
