Each person chooses their own pace and level of exertion. How long is a Nia class? A Nia class usually lasts 60 minutes. What's a Nia class like? Classes generally follow this format: Begin with a key focus or intention Warm up, preparing the heart and lungs, and activating energy into the joints Energizing movements with mobility, flexibility and strength to achieve whole-body conditioning Calming, Harmonizing, & Recentering to harmonize the body, mind, emotions and spirit Floorplay, or "fitness on the floor," using gravity and space to improve strength and flexibility Concluding with an appreciation of our body's abilities, and transition to the rest of our day What's the Joy of Movement? The first principle of Nia, the Joy of Movement is the physical celebration of the body. Nia offers you a chance to experience the joy of moving in your body, in the ways that feel best to you. What do I wear during a Nia class? Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable and free to move! Many students wear comfortable clothes, such as what they'd wear to a Yoga or gym class. Perhaps the most important thing is what you don't wear; Nia is done in bare feet, so that you can feel connected to the ground. |
